“Remember where you got this Tea from FIRST” ~ Funky Dineva
Nessa Girl!! Ive been holding on to this tea for a little minute and I finally have mustered up the energy to spill it. You may not believe it, but stating facts while throwing shade is an art that can drain the life out of of you. OK. Here we go. So it is no secret that Nikki Gilbert got axed from R&B Divas. I told you about that some time ago. [Its OFFICIAL, Nicci Gilbert FIRED From R&B Divas] Long story short, the folks over at TvOne conducted some marketing surveys and 95% of respondents stated that they did not like Nicci Gilbert. I think the general consensus is that people really didn’t care for Nicci’s attitude on the show.
Now many of you are asking, “didn’t Nicci come up with the show, how did she get fired and it is her show?”Let me help you out here. The “Executive Producer” title that Nicci Gilbert, Shaunie O’neal and countless others hold is not worth its weight in rice. All that title means is you are the person who is credited for the concept. Sure, there may have been some sort of commission paid out for it, but thats about it. R&B Divas is TvOne’s show NOT Nicci’s, hence why they were able to fire her.
The Doll learned along with with Nicci, Faith Evans will not be returning either. Quiet as its kept, I don’t think anyone really cares that Faith isn’t returning. In my opinion, Faith added absolutely nothing to the show and the energy that she exuded on the few scenes she was in read like she really didn’t want to be there. I think Faith’s whole agenda was to drum up a buzz , and to use the show as a platform to push her “Faith Evens, R&B Divas” cd which was a flop. God don’t like ugly and he ain’t to crazy bout pretty either. Faith gooped all the R&B Divas. Only her face appeared on the album cover and Faith was billed separately the whole way through.
Faith was on some, The Isley Brothers featuring Ronald Isely type B.S. “Wait a minute, aren’t we all the Isley Brothers?” Weren’t you all R&B Divas
Dianna Ross Faith? Faith really was on some ole Beyonce & Destiny’s Children type mess. The universe gut punched that a** and got her right together though. Honestly, I don’t think this show was a good look for Faith. It made her look hasbeenish. In the long run, being that Faith has a larger brand, it probably was in her best interest to walk away.
In sum, I guess its safe to say that we are glad Nicci isn’t returning and could care less that Faith isn’t. Hell, now that I think about it, Nicci proclaimed time and time again that she really didn’t want to sing. So i guess its only right that she NOT be on a singing show.
So enough, with the backstory. Out with the old and in with the new. Welcome Angie Stone and Sunshine Anderson to the fold. Hmm this should be interesting. Let’s not act like Angie Stone does not have a reputation for having a bad attitude. So we swap one bad attitude for another TvOne? Ok if you say so. I’ll try it out. I can’t speak to much on Sunshine Anderson. I know she’s heard it all before, but when it comes to her, I haven’t heard much of anything. Unsung or Life After may have been a tad bit more fitting for Sunshine Anderson, but again, I’ll try it out.
Something tells me that Syleena Johnson and Angie Stone are not going to get along. They both have very strong personalities. My gut is also telling me that Keke Wyatt and Sunshine Anderson are going to hit it off well. Partially because they are closest in age to one another. Sunshine may be the answer to Keke Wyatt not feeling like an outsider all the time.
All and all I can say that I am glad that R&B Divas is returning for another season. I would be lying if i said i followed it with the same passion that I have for shows like Love & HipHop, RHOA, Scandal, etc., but it is a good show. I definitely found it entertaining majority of the time.
One final thought about the latest additions to the cast. Now that I think about it, of all the old singers that are floating around here in Atlanta, I guess these two were the best choice for a show like R&b Divas. Off the top of my head, there are only a few other ladies here. Latocha Scott (Xscape), Regina Bell, uhmmm Meela Johnson (702/Musiq Soul Childs baby Mamma), uhmmm yeah I can’t think of anyone else. Any who, I’ll definitely be watching.
