Now I pride myself on being very knowledgable when it comes to 90’s R&B. While watching the premiere episode of the new TLC show The Sisterhood when Ivy Couch said she was in the girl group Xscape, I damn near fell out of my bed. I’ve NEVER know Xscape to have any other members other than Latocha, Kandi, Tiny and Tameka. So who is this chick??? Well, come to find out, she was a replacement after the group disbanded. I’m sure you can guess who’s replacement she was. Catch these T’s
So just when was Ivy Couch in Xscape? The answer is “at a point in which it didn’t matter because no one remembers her a**. Who’s replacement was she? The answer is Kandi Burruss.
Loosely paraphrased, the story goes:
After Xscape ended, there was several attempts at a reunion/reconciliation. The powers at be wanted to milk all they could out of the successful brand. Especially considering that the group broke up while they were on top and still hot. Kandi was asked to participate in this reunion effort. After declining to do so, Kandi was asked to sign over her rights to the group. Needless to say, she signed them over. After relinquishing her rights to the group, Ivy Couch was the second of three replacements. Those in charge even went as far as cutting and dying Ivy’s hair to give her a Kandiesq image. Ivy’s tenure with the group was extremely short lived. Word is she only performed publically with them once or twice. Rumor has it that she had issues with the sisters Latocha & Tameka.
You know The Doll scurried to try to find videos and pictures of Ivy while in Xscape. Needless to say, there aren’t any. The rise and fall of Xscape is starting to sound more and more like Dream Girls. TVone, I think it is time we fast forward Unsung to the 90’s and get the real T’s on what really happened
