[VIDEO] More PROMO For The Rickey Smiley TV Show

Posted in Uncategorized

September 18th, The Rickey Smiley show is set to debut on TV One. Not sue how much you guys have heard about it, but the show is set to star Rickey Smiley, along side Ray J, and comedians J Anthony Brown and Lil JJ.

The show is focused around a radio personality who has adopted several children and the issues he faces as a celebrity raising these children. The issues in the show are said to be loosely based off of occurrences in Rickey’s real life. I watched the promo and all i have to say is “I guess…”. I completely  get what networks like TV One, and studios like Tyler Perry  are trying to accomplish and i applaud their efforts. However, sometimes I feel like in an effort to portray an over abundance of positivity and create these all black ensemble casts, that the entertainment value gets a tad bit diminished. Perhaps some of these shows just were not designed to entertain folks like me. Everybody ain’t gone like everything. Non the less, I wish Rickey the best. Check out the promo, you be the judge.

  1. I completely love Rickey Smiley. Ever since he came to the Dallas market on 97.9 The Beat in the morning behind old dry ass Steve Harvey. Im not from Atlanta and I dont know how long Tyler Perry has been dressing in drag and acting a fool on stage, But you can tell that the characters that Ricky Smiley portrays are actually people that he either thought of or are close too. I loove Berniece Jenkens, and although I too like Madea at times she can go over board with the stereotypes like a man in drag not trying to BE a woman but just an image of a woman. And you can definitely feel his church presence every morning, it send chills up my spine. How can you go from playing Wacka Flacka to a prayer session. I dunno but Rickey gets it in every morning. But enough with the comparisons. I just feel Ricky smiley is a hilarious man with or without costume and I will support him. Now this Ray J character is NOT the business. The hell was TV One thinking! He F’ed up Moesha, MOESHA!! Now you want to put him in a comedy? He is realy trying to bank off whitneys death, hes been popping up wherever he could to get his 15 minutes to discuss it… guess it paid off.

  2. *Yawn* They are really reaching here. So is their market old black folks between the ages of 55-89, that do nothing but go to church and watch TVOne all day long? The looks like a washed up, watered down reboot of Martin+Amen+The Sinbad Show to me. I won’t be watching.

  3. Believe me, I love all the ratchety shows geared toward adult humor. However, this show appears to be more family friendly which is definitely a welcomed change in a sea of over the top reality show madness.
