I don’t want to rain on this parade, but I’m starting to question the love that was made! Famed 90′s R&B group Brownstone has come together after years of separation, but 1/3 of the trio has me asking “Harpo who this woman?” Don’t get me wrong, I think it is awesome when groups reunite, but its not quite the same when all of the members from the poster in your ‘Word Up’ magazine are not present. As I recall it, the Brownstone I knew and loved consisted of Nicci, Maxee, and Kina. Well, Kina ain’t nowhere to be found so now we have Nicci, Maxee, and Teisha. Who is Teisha? Who cares? The bigger question is where is Kina and why won’t she sing along side Nicci & Maxee? I’m sure y’all can already guess why. Catch these T’s
Y’all already know that Nicci Gilbert is the reason Kina wants nothing to do with Brownstone. I’m sure that wasn’t that hard to guess based on the character that Nicci plays on R&B Divas. I was having a conversation with an industry insider who I wish i could reveal their identity because it would make the following statement even funnier if you knew who they were, but this is what they had to say:
Bless her heart! She’s really delusional. Per her own words on episode 6, them broads from Brownstone walked away from the group and signed away ALL rights to Nicci! They hated her so much that they didn’t even act like Tina Turner and ask for the name – they just wanted freedom period!!!!!!
Chile cheese. I believe it. The weird thing about this situation is that no one really knows the truth accept the parties involved. However, Nicci’s portrayal on R&B Divas makes it very easy for any reasonable person to believe that she is difficult to deal with. I’ll say this, I met Nicci once and she was extremely pleasant. We met at a show where the cars that both of us had rode in were booted while we were inside. We spent sometime in the parking lot chatting and laughing and I found her spirit to be very pleasant. We exchanged phone numbers and all. I was shocked tremendously when I saw the way Nicci is “portrayed” on R&B Divas. In fairness, I use the word “portrayed” because Nicci argues that it is editing that has her looking crazy and others argue that the camera is merely serving as a mirror. I’m sure the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Anyway, although I would have preferred to have seen Kina, I welcome Teisha. Watching this video of the new Brownstone rehearsing still brought on an overwhelming, yet pleasant feeling of nostalgia. Check it out and let me know if you feel the same thing?
