At the conclusion of the R&B Divas LA reunion when Kelly Price made the big tour announcement, I fell dead to the bed. Is it me, or was the whole announcement shady bootz? Kelly announced that she along with Faith Evans, Chante Moore, Dawn Robinson, and Brownstone would be going on tour. The announcement caught everyone off guard. I like to refer to this lineup as the friends, family and favoritism tour. Much like the Sesame Street game, one of these things is not like the other. Based on their reactions, no one was more caught off guard than Lil Mo. Am I the only one who felt like Chante should have perhaps filled Mo in, even if no paperwork had been signed yet? Then it threw me how Kelly paid a sickening piece of homage to Michel’le, citing that before there was Faith or Mary J Blige, Michel’le was singing over hip hop beats. However, when the tour line up was announced, Michel’le s name was nowhere in the mix. Really Girl? But Dawn Robinson made the short list? Ohh ok. We all see what this is. There is so much mess here that I don’t even know where to begin breaking it all down.
Let me first say that I think it is a huge slap in the face to the entire R&B Divas Atlanta cast that Nicci Glibert can seem to effortlessly get a tour going with Kelly and the rest when the Atlanta girls have been trying for some time now. Hell, a tour has been the premise of the show for the last two seasons. I found it rather odd that Kelly announced Brownstone would be touring and not Nicci Gilbert. Then it hit me. Could it be possible that Nicci consciously or unconsciously sabotaged the chances of their being an R&B Divas Atlanta tour for personal reasons? All of this is speculative, but reasons could include, a) she has no songs to sing other than Brownstone songs, b) she feels more comfortable within the walls of Brownstone vs taking the stage alone, or c) she probably would have gotten paid the least hence why she fought so hard to be on the organizing end. I don’t know, I could be completely off base, but these reasons do sound feasible considering…
I don’t want to rain on this parade, but after that horrible performance that Brownstone gave towards the end of R&B Divas Atlanta season 2, who in their right mind would pay to see them? Now don’t get me wrong, I would be a liar if I said I am not a Brownstone fan. I rock the hell out whenever Grapevine, 5 miles to empty, if you love me, or I can’t tell you why plays on the radio. However, I just don’t think the demand is there to want to see them on tour. Now I could see Brownstone on girls group tour with groups like Kut Klose, SWV, Zhane, Xscape, etc. But when your line up includes Faith Evans, Kelly Price, and Chante Moore, then you throw in Brownstone, one of these things is not like the other. This is why I call this the friends family and favoritism tour.
Speaking of Chante Moore, she recently did an interview where she announced that as of now she isn’t touring with anyone. Long story short, she says the paperwork is not in place. Chante’s interview, and Nicci Gilbert’s cryptic tweets make me wonder if a tour will even happen.
Ok well don’t get snazzy with us mama. Kelly Price is the one who announced on television what the lineup was. Don’t get mad with us now for speculating and commenting after Chante drop that bomb. Quiet as its kept, it looks as if you don’t know what the line up is either because you would have quelled all the chatter by announcing it rather than getting all defensive.
I swear I try my hardest to Give Nicci Gilbert the benefit of the doubt, but this sh!t right here! Really girl? So you mean to tell me all the Divas were considered and the promoters chose Dawn Robinson and Brownstone (Nicci Gilbert). Dawn Robinson couldn’t sell a dinner table worth of seats and neither can Brownstone, and you mean to tell me these are who the PROMOTERS chose? Chile cheese. You sound dumb and you are looking like a liar right about now. I done f&cked around and got mad reading that sh!t. How dare you try and play on our intelligence? That right there is the sole reason why people do not like you and Kelly Price right now. The sad part about it is that both of y’all could be very likable people. I know it is in you guys to be loved and liked, but y’all gotta stop these games. Speaking of you and Kelly Price, it would be a bad move for y’all to do ANYTHING together. There are too many negative emotions attached to both of you guy’s personas at the moment for that to sell. At best the people can take one or the other, and that’s even debatable at the moment.
Iyanla Vanzant says we must call a thing a thing. We all know this tour is Kelly and Nicci’s way of getting back at their respective cast members. That being said, Faith Evans is messy as hell for getting involved. Quiet as its kept, from the inception of the project Faith appeared non interested and as if she half didn’t want to be bothered. Now all of a sudden she wants to be in the mix with the R&B Divas. With regards to the show, Faith was so damn absent that Dawn Robinson is more rightfully entitled to be on an R&B Divas affiliated tour. The only issue is Dawn may not be able to get to tour rehearsal as a result of her car running hot. Can you imagine Kelly Price and them holding gallon jugs of water trying to help Dawn pour water in her car.? Priceless
Honestly I don’t see any promoter taking on the tour line up that Kelly initially announced. The demand is not there for 2 out of the 5 names mentioned. No need to split the money five ways when the same amount of tickets can be sold with just 3. The tour that makes sense is Faith Evans, Kelly Price, and Chante Moore. That would have been sickening and there would have been no shade about it. Anyone looking at this lineup can see that it makes sense. Things went left when you throw Dawn Robinson and Brownstone in the mix. I swear to you I am not trying to be shady, no one wants to see them! The tour arrangement that makes sense for Nicci Gilbet and Dawn Robinson is the projects that they both started with their respective casts. Both of those projects look like 5 women moving together as a unit for a common goal, not friends family and favoritism. It is evident that Nicci is exploiting her friendship with Faith and Kelly and riding their coattails, and Dawn Robinson is everyone’s charity work. Correct me when I’m wrong and acknowledge me when I’m right…
