Is ‘Scandal’ A Quality Television Show Or Simply A Popular Twitter Sensation? Writer Argues Scandal is Not Quality

Posted in Scandal

Scandal -- Screengrab from exclusive clip.

It goes without saying that I am a die hard Scandal fan. However, as the show grows in popularity, the amount of criticism it receives grows as well. Scandal has come under attack by many in the African American community for the nature of the relationship between Olivia (Kerry Washington) & Fitz (Tony Goldwyn). Many black people have taken exception with the “black woman” being the “white man’s” mistress, sidepiece, and accomplice in adultery. Ughhh I think that these folks are over analyzing things, but for some people, their relationship is a nuisance. I personally think the depth of their love overshadows race. Quite frankly, I don’t think the story would be as compelling if the two characters were of the same racial background.

Art is all subjective. What one person finds good, others may find subpar. I didn’t watch the Emmey’s nor do I watch any of the shows that were in the category with Scandal. However, I have caught wind of the chatter surrounding some feeling like Scandal is a good show, but there are others out there of greater quality. Again, all of this is subjective. There truly is no yardstick to measure art. Hell I think all of those Picaso paintings are ugly as hell and stupid, yet they are worth millions. I just don’t get it it. Soraya Nadia McDonald, a writer for the Huffington Post feels some kind of way about Scandal. She passionately states her claim on how Scandal is NOT quality television, but popular television supported by Twitter. Do you agree? Catch these T’ Continue reading

The Cast Of Scandal Speak On What To Expect On The Premiere Of Season 3 TONIGHT

Posted in Scandal

tumblr_mu3th4LT0f1sqqq6go5_250Chile are y’all ready for tonight’s season 3 premier of ABC’s Scandal? Yes Gawd, lord knows I am. I’m on my way down to the wig shop in just a bit to pick out the nastiest piece of presidential white woman hair I can find. Lol

When season two left off, Olivia Pope was named as Fitz’s Monica Lewenski. Only difference is Oliva was getting hunched in any broom closet she could find while Monica Lewinski was suckinf d!ck down to da desk. That’s neither here nor there. What is pressing is the fact that the members of Oliva Pope & Associates are now left having to take on their fearless leader as a client. This sets the stage for all that Scandal like drama that we have come to know and love.

Over time, we have gotten so caught up in Olive & Fitz’s love affair that we have paid very little attention to the fact that we really do not know much about Olivia Pope’s background. Well season 3 is here and all of that is about to change. TV Guide sat down with the cast of Scandal and asked them a few questions about season 3. Check out what all they had to say Continue reading

Was Kerry Washington Snubbed Out Of An Emmy? Why Do We (Still) Need White Validation?

Posted in Scandal

The thoughts and opinions expressed in this post solely belong to Anti intellect – FUNKY DINEVA DID NOT WRITE THIS

Why is White validation more important than Black appreciation and recognition? This was the question on my mind after many Black people voiced their disappointment at Kerry Washington not winning an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Personally, I am over Black people being “making history” by being the first Black person to get recognition from a White organization. However, I think it is useful to examine the reason(s) why we (still) need White validation for our work.

When it was announced Kerry Washington had been nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, I braced myself for the inevitable racial ruckus that would esue with her win or loss. I wondered whether a win by Kerry Washington would result in the all too predictable goo-goo, ga-ga reaction over a “Black First” that always seems to come when we receive White validation for our work.  It seems that no matter how many times we are recognized and awarded by our own award shows–The NAACP Image Awards, The BET Awards, The Soul Train Awards–the “real” recognition, we are to understand, can only come from White award shows like The Grammy’s, The Emmy’s, The Golden Globes, and The Oscars.  Never mind that Kerry Washington has already been recognized as an Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series by the NAACP Image Awards, the real recognition for her work can only come from a White award show like the Emmy’s, apparently. 4 Characters That Lisa Kudrow Could Play During Season 3 Of Scandal

Last week started my official coverage of all things Scandal season 3. Gawd knows I can’t wait for a slew of ABC shows to return to my television screen this fall. Scandal, Revenge, Once Upon A Time, Modern Family, and The Middle are all ABC shows that I love. Lisa Kudrow has gotten her phone call from Shonda Rhimes and given a roll on season 3. I’m still waiting on Miss Shonda to call me and let me know when to report to work. While the folks over at ShondaLand are trying to figure out my role, we are left at home trying to figure out Lisa Kudrow’s. All we know is that she will be playing a politician. Lips have been sealed on much else regarding Kudrow’ s recurring role. Here are four possible roles Lisa Kudrow could be playing. Catch these T’s Continue reading
