Ok, so I’m not going to Lie. When Nessa told me that they were planning to remake Steel Magnolias with an all black cast, I immediately said “Chile Cheese”. Then when Nessa went on to tell me that it was being made for the Lifetime television network and not going to the big screen, I hung up on her. ok! “Ain’t nobody got time for that” However hunty, I must say, after looking at this trailer, King Latifah has my full attention. I am intrigued.

Quiet as its kept, it looks like it is going to be good. From the trailer, Alfre Woodard looks like she plays the hell out of the Ouiser (Weezer) character originally played by Shirley MacLaine. For some strange reason I always felt a special connection with Ouiser. We have a lot in common. Felicia Rashad stars in the movie as well. You know it would be nothing shy of Complete Devastation to the Nation if she did not revamp the oh so elegant Clarie Belcher character originally played by Olympia Dukakis. Quiet as its kept, I really just wanted to say “Olympia Dukakis”. How cool is her name? Olympia Dukakis.. ok i’m done.

Any way, there is a whole buch of notable black females staring in this remake including Philicia Rashad’s daughter Condola Rashad, and Grammy award winner Jill Scott. When the movie will actually wire has yet to be announced. Considering that the trailer has been released, i would imagine the movies isn’t too far behind.
